Mastercard launches Wallet Pay in Singapore
Mastercard unveiled Mastercard Wallet Pay in Singapore on September 10, a set of tools that lets digital wallet providers connect to Mastercard’s network.
This lets users pay, transfer money, and access financial services across markets without building their own global infrastructure.
At launch, Mastercard said partners included Alipay+ partner wallets AlipayHK, Clip, GCash, KakaoPay, TNG eWallet, and TrueMoney, along with Axian, CRED, DaviPlata, Mercado Pago, MTN, and TenPay Global.
It said Wallet Pay supports contactless, QR code, and online payments.
Mastercard said Wallet Pay supports transfers across cards, wallets, and accounts in more than 200 countries and territories.
The launch also comes as Singapore’s regulator promotes cross-border payment linkages.
Singapore is a suitable launch venue because digital wallets there already support online, in-store, and cross-border transactions.
Rival Visa Direct also offers global money movement and says it supports interoperability.
