🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Singapore as a live testbed for global finance sets the stage for the hire
- Minsook Cho joins as Singapore’s regulators and public-sector leaders shape digital finance, beyond routine oversight.
- The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) set priorities around tokenisation and artificial intelligence, plus standards and interoperability for tokenised financial assets 1.
- That focus turns Singapore into a proving ground for tokenised deposits and regulated stablecoins, while Asia Pacific becomes a testing ground for production-grade rollouts of regulated digital money 2.
- BLOOM is testing settlement with tokenised bank liabilities and well-regulated stablecoins, covering domestic and cross-border wholesale scenarios 3.
From digital payments to automated, AI-driven commerce
- Mastercard wants to move past basic digital transactions toward “intelligent commerce” 4.
- It is building “agentic payments” where AI assistants shop and pay for a user, with tools such as Agent Pay 5.
- Singapore connects to that plan through MAS’ BLOOM initiative. It includes corporate treasury management, trade finance, and agentic payments, which MAS defines as AI-agent-initiated and executed transactions with guardrails 3.
- Cho will need to turn these concepts into products, earn consumer trust, and cut risks such as card-not-present fraud, forecast to top $100 billion worldwide by 2029 4.
