Malaysia’s Zetrix AI opens Jakarta lab for ASEAN-China AI projects

Zetrix AI has signed an agreement to launch an ASEAN-China AI lab in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, four months after opening its first facility in Malaysia.

Zetrix AI, based in Malaysia and formerly known as MY E.G. Services Berhad, partnered with PT Royal Solusi Investasi, part of Indonesia’s Royal Group, to establish the lab.

The initiative is part of a government-backed project between China and Malaysia to promote AI development in the region.

The Jakarta lab will focus on adapting AI projects from other markets for Indonesia, with support from local and foreign governments, and will address cross-border tech transfer and data privacy.

The ASEAN-China AI lab aims to bring together firms from China and Southeast Asia to develop AI, blockchain, and robotics applications tailored to local needs.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Indonesia presents exceptional AI market opportunity with proven adoption momentum

Zetrix AI’s expansion into Indonesia targets Southeast Asia’s most dynamic AI market, where adoption is accelerating at remarkable speed.

Indonesia achieved the highest AI adoption rate in Southeast Asia at 24.6% in 2018, and this momentum has only intensified—with 5.9 million businesses adopting AI solutions in 2024 alone 1.

The market opportunity is substantial, with AI projected to contribute USD 366 billion annually to Indonesia’s GDP by 2030 2.

Indonesia’s internet economy already contributes 40% of Southeast Asia’s total gross merchandise value of USD 70 billion, demonstrating the country’s digital leadership within the region 3.

This creates a compelling foundation for Zetrix’s lab expansion, as the company can leverage existing digital infrastructure and proven market appetite for AI solutions.

2️⃣ Skills shortage creates strategic advantage for international AI partnerships

The Indonesia expansion addresses a critical market gap that could provide Zetrix AI with significant competitive positioning.

Despite strong adoption momentum, 57% of Indonesian businesses cite lack of skilled personnel as their primary barrier to deeper AI implementation 1.
