U Mobile, a Malaysian telecommunications company, said on August 12 that it is working with OpenAI to explore AI applications across customer service, internal workflows, cybersecurity, software development, data analytics, and network operations.

AWS will provide cloud infrastructure and technical support for the initiative.

OpenAI will also become an anchor partner for U Mobile’s Enterprise Innovation Platform, an existing initiative that works with businesses, startups, developers, and academia on AI and 5G-Advanced projects.

OpenAI said the agreement is its first collaboration with a telecommunications provider in Malaysia.

The move comes as U Mobile, Malaysia’s third-largest mobile operator with 9.8 million mobile connections and a 19.8% market share, expands after being selected to build the country’s second 5G network.

U Mobile’s Enterprise Innovation Platform is an existing initiative to support 5G-Advanced and AI adoption through co-creation, testing, and technical guidance.
