Malaysia’s PayNet expands DuitNow QR payments to 5 markets

PayNet, the Malaysian operator of the DuitNow payments network, said on October 28 that users of supported Maybank, CIMB, and Hong Leong Bank mobile banking apps can now scan merchant QR codes with the Alipay+ logo to pay at participating merchants in China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, South Korea, the Philippines, and Laos.

Users can make payments through their existing banking apps without downloading a separate app.

The service links DuitNow QR with Ant International’s Alipay+ network. PayNet said Bank Islam is due to join soon. Other banks and e-wallets participating in PayNet can also adopt the service, and PayNet said it will add more markets over time.

PayNet said it handled nearly 30 million cross-border transactions in 2025, up about 150% from 2024. Transactions linked to China accounted for much of the increase.
