Malaysian university taps Salesforce AI agent for recruitment

The University of Nottingham Malaysia is adopting Agentforce, an AI-powered digital platform, to handle student enquiries and streamline the application process.

The university, which serves over 4,500 students from more than 70 countries, is the first tertiary institution in Malaysia to use Agentforce.

Prospective students can interact with NOVA, an AI agent, to receive real-time information about courses, scholarships, and accommodation, and to book appointments or campus tours.

The system aims to provide round-the-clock support, especially for international applicants who may send queries outside business hours.

Agentforce will operate across the university’s website, WhatsApp, Facebook, and WeChat, automating administrative tasks and allowing staff to focus on in-person engagements.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Agentforce education track record still unclear for enterprise use

  • Salesforce says Agentforce handled over 1.5 million internal support requests and saved 500,000 hours 1. We could not find public higher-ed case studies with metrics like case deflection rates (the share of inquiries resolved without a human), response time gains, or conversion uplift (increases in the share of prospects who ultimately enroll).
  • Salesforce’s education pages carry a disclaimer that pre-built capabilities are “continuously enhanced” and “may not reflect actual product details or availability” 23. This signals that features are still changing, not locked for broad use.
  • The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) is described as “the first tertiary institution in Malaysia” to use Agentforce. That confirms a real deployment in higher education. The scale of rollouts across Asia-Pacific (APAC) remains unclear based on public info.

Integrators can target Southeast Asian universities already on Salesforce for Agentforce

  • Implementation partners are consulting firms that implement and connect complex software. Accenture and PwC deploy Education Cloud, Salesforce’s suite for educational institutions 4. Cloud for Good is a Salesforce-focused consultancy for nonprofits and education. UNM’s rollout spans WhatsApp, Facebook, and WeChat. That creates integration, localization, and messaging setup work for Agentforce projects.
  • Schools already on Sales Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Digital Engagement, or Einstein, as UNM was before Agentforce, need agent setup and workflow automation.
  • Integrators such as Ranosys, a regional IT services firm, already offer Education Cloud in Singapore 5. They can expand into Malaysia and other Southeast Asia (SEA) markets by bundling Agentforce with assessment, consultation, and ongoing support.
