Malaysia to tighten chip rules over US export concerns
Malaysia plans to tighten semiconductor regulations after US concerns over high-end chip exports to China.
The US has asked Malaysia to track Nvidia chips to ensure they reach their intended destinations, trade minister Zafrul Aziz said.
The issue comes as the US investigates whether Chinese AI firm DeepSeek has used restricted US-made chips.
Malaysia is also reviewing legal violations tied to server shipments linked to a US$390 million fraud case in Singapore, where servers may contain advanced chips under US export controls.
Nvidia has not yet responded to requests for comment.
