Malaysian authorities have summoned TikTok’s top management over concerns about delays in tackling fake news on its platform, according to state news agency Bernama.

Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said TikTok, owned by ByteDance, was slow to respond to police requests for assistance, including a case where a user falsely claimed to be a pathologist involved in a high-profile investigation.

Fadzil said he contacted TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew directly due to a lack of timely cooperation.

TikTok is expected to meet with the police chief and attorney general at Malaysia’s police headquarters on September 4, 2025.

Fadzil said Malaysia will keep summoning platforms to ensure they comply with local laws.
