Malaysia aims to lead digital finance with PM’s crypto plan

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has endorsed Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s initiative to explore a digital finance policy that includes cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Since 2019, the SC has worked to develop the regulatory framework for digital assets, which encompasses cryptocurrencies.

Currently, Malaysia’s regulated digital asset market features exchanges, initial exchange offering operators, fund managers, and custody service providers.

SC Chairman Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi affirmed the SC’s readiness to cooperate with agencies such as Bank Negara Malaysia.

This collaboration aims to enhance Malaysia’s role as a responsible and innovative hub for digital finance.
