US livestream marketplace Whatnot bags $545m in series G
Whatnot, a US-based livestream shopping marketplace, said on Aug. 7 that it raised US$545 million in a series G funding round led by Iconiq, Lightspeed, and Avra, valuing the company at US$20 billion.
The company said it will use the funding to expand seller tools and enter new markets.
The valuation is up from US$11.5 billion in its October 2025 series F and nearly US$5 billion in its January 2025 series E, bringing total funding since its 2019 founding to about US$1.5 billion.
Whatnot said it has surpassed the US$8 billion in gross merchandise volume it recorded last year.
More than 650,000 people join the platform each week, and buyers have more than doubled over the past year.
Founded in 2019 by Grant LaFontaine and Logan Head, Whatnot started as a resale app before shifting to livestream selling in 2020, initially focusing on collectibles such as Funko Pops.
Earlier in 2025, the company said it worked with sellers in eight countries, including the US, Canada, Germany, and France, and planned to expand further across North America and Europe.
Whatnot said the live commerce market exceeds US$22 billion and that it holds about 60% of the segment, although competition is increasing from eBay, Fanatics, and TikTok Shop Live.
