Malaysia is reviewing whether LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, must obtain a social media license under the country’s internet regulations.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is evaluating if LinkedIn exceeds the 8 million user threshold in Malaysia, which would qualify it as a social media platform.
The licensing requirement, introduced to combat cybercrimes like fraud, cyberbullying, and online sexual offenses.
Platforms such as TikTok, Telegram, and WeChat have already obtained licenses, while Meta is expected to receive its license soon.
