LG, US-based Flex collaborate on modular cooling for AI data centers

LG Electronics has signed a memorandum of understanding with US-based data center infrastructure firm Flex to jointly develop a modular cooling solution for AI data centers, aimed at addressing growing heat challenges.

The new solution will combine LG’s high-efficiency cooling technologies, such as chillers, coolant distribution units, and computer room air handlers with Flex’s expertise in IT and power infrastructure.

Both companies plan to create preassembled and pretested cooling modules that can be deployed and connected on-site, making data center operations more scalable and flexible.

The modular design lets operators add cooling units as needed to effectively manage thermal loads in high-density computing environments.

LG said the system can be customized for specific thermal management needs and enables rapid installation and deployment.

Executives from both companies highlighted the collaboration as a way to deliver innovative cooling solutions and strengthen their presence in the AI data center market.
