LG Uplus, a South Korean telecom operator, said on June 5 it is targeting 5 trillion won (US$3.25 billion) in AI data center orders by 2030 as it expands its AI infrastructure strategy around its Paju AI data center in Gyeonggi Province.

The company said contracts for Paju Block 1, due for completion in June 2027, have been finalized.

At the site, LG Uplus said it would work with affiliates including LG Electronics and LG Energy Solution under its “One LG” strategy.

It plans to use modular construction to shorten build times and deploy a hybrid air-and-liquid cooling system as it shifts from space leasing to operating an “AI Factory” that manages power, cooling, and computing resources.

The plan builds on a data center business LG Uplus has pursued for over a decade, rather than marking a new entry into the sector.

The expansion comes as South Korea’s data center market is projected to grow at a 20.38% compound annual growth rate through 2031, driven by AI and demand from hyperscale cloud operators.
