LG Uplus forms alliance to develop modular AI data centers
South Korean telecom operator LG Uplus said on September 6 it formed the PMDC Alliance at its Pyeongchon Megacenter in Anyang with four local construction and design firms.
The group will develop a standard model for prefabricated modular data centers for AI data center projects.
The partners are GS Engineering & Construction, Xi C&A, Gansam Architects, and D&O CM.
LG Uplus will set operating standards and technical requirements, and verify the model, while the other companies will optimize construction, design, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) work, and project and construction management.
Since April, the group has reviewed a standard model for a new 100MW hyperscale data center and a retrofit model for converting existing buildings into data centers.
PMDCs standardize building structures and power and cooling facilities for factory prefabrication and on-site assembly, which can shorten construction timelines and allow phased expansion.
