LG Uplus, Ericsson to develop network voice AI
LG Uplus said on July 21 it will work with Sweden-based telecom vendor Ericsson to develop network-based voice AI solutions, expand overseas business, and advance AI-native networks.
The companies plan to combine LG Uplus’s AI call agent ixi-O with Ericsson’s network expertise. They will also test voice AI solutions across global cloud environments and aim to complete verification by year-end.
The collaboration was discussed during LG Uplus CEO Hong Bum-shik’s July 14 visit to Ericsson’s Stockholm headquarters.
It also covers AI-driven network operations such as performance optimization, automated fault response, energy efficiency, and service quality management.
Ixi-O is a consumer AI calling app that can summarize calls and answer them on a user’s behalf, not an enterprise contact-center tool already in deployment.
LG Uplus said it is developing ixi-O as a software-as-a-service offering and is in talks with Southeast Asian telecom operators. This is part of a broader enterprise AI effort aimed at 2 trillion won (US$1.34 billion) in annual revenue by 2028.
The company added that ixi-O uses on-device speech-to-text technology, so voice data from before user activation is not sent to external servers.
