LG Innotek expands Vietnam chip substrate factory
LG Innotek signed a memorandum of understanding with Hai Phong City on June 4 to expand a semiconductor substrate factory in the Vietnamese city.
Construction will start in July and finish by May 2027.
The site will produce semiconductors substrates used in mobile devices, computing systems, and AI infrastructure.
The expansion gives LG Innotek a dual-site setup.
Gumi will handle new technology development and high-value new models, while Hai Phong will focus on mass production of general-purpose substrates.
The investment adds to LG Innotek’s presence in Hai Phong. Vietnam has mainly been the company’s camera-module base rather than a substrate production hub.
LG Innotek said its Gumi lines were operating near full capacity and cited demand from 5G smartphones, on-device AI, and AI infrastructure. The company is targeting more than 3 trillion won (US$1.98 billion) in package-solution sales by 2030 while continuing domestic investment.
