LG Electronics faces $75.1m operating loss in Q4

LG posted revenue of 23.9 trillion won (US$16.4 billion) and an operating loss of 109.4 billion won (US$75.1 million) for Q4 2025.

Display-based businesses, including TVs and IT displays, recorded an operating loss amid sluggish demand, while LG’s webOS platform saw double-digit growth and now runs on about 260 million devices globally.

LG Electronics reported preliminary revenue of 89.2 trillion won (US$61.3 billion) and operating profit of 2.5 trillion won (US$1.72 billion) for 2025, setting a new annual record.

The Korea-based electronics firm said this marks its second consecutive year of record revenue, though operating profit dropped year-on-year due to weak display demand, tougher competition, and restructuring costs.

LG’s home appliance and vehicle solutions units both achieved record annual sales, with vehicle solutions also posting record profit.

Nearly half of LG’s revenue now comes from B2B operations, software platforms, and direct-to-consumer models such as subscriptions and online sales.

The company’s full audited results will be released later this month.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Record revenue misses the full story without segment profit

  • LG booked FY2025 revenue of KRW 89.2 trillion, a record, while operating profit slipped to KRW 2.5 trillion. Q4 posted an operating loss of KRW 109.4 billion 1.
  • The display group covering TVs, IT, and commercial screens posted a loss. webOS reach did not lift hardware profit.
  • Weak display demand, tougher competition, and restructuring costs hit results this year.
  • Investors cannot judge whether vehicle solutions offset display losses or if the B2B pivot delivers durable margins. Nearly half of revenue now comes from B2B, software platforms, and direct‑to‑consumer offerings.

CTV app publishers can use LG webOS reach with proven ad formats

  • webOS now runs on about 260 million devices. The Home Screen, the primary TV menu, gets three daily visits from 97% of LG Smart TV users who browse for nearly 10 minutes before picking content 2.
  • Interactive Home Screen ads lift awareness 3.9×. Human centered creative raises brand consideration 6.4× 2.
  • LG Ad Solutions offers Performance Enhancer, a tool that blends LG audience data with Taboola’s engine. It extends CTV campaigns into quality digital settings and gives unified ROI reporting from first impression to conversion 3. Taboola is a content discovery and digital advertising platform.
  • CTV app teams plus Free Ad‑Supported Streaming Television channels can launch on webOS for high attention ad slots and cross‑channel attribution infrastructure (systems that link ad exposure to outcomes across platforms). That package can justify premium CPMs and attract performance focused advertisers.
