LG Electronics beats Q1 estimates with record revenue forecast
LG Electronics said its first-quarter guidance points to operating profit of 1.7 trillion won (US$1.1 billion), and sales of 23.7 trillion won (US$15.7 billion).
That would put operating profit up 32.9% and sales up 4.4% year-on-year, while setting a record high for quarterly revenue.
The estimate also beat market expectations, and the profit rise came as its response to US tariffs and cost-cutting efforts paid off.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The real story behind LG’s record revenue
- Record revenue came from a shift toward business-to-business (B2B), plus non-hardware lines like subscriptions and the webOS platform, LG’s smart TV operating system. Direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales also played a bigger role than traditional hardware alone 1.
- Two B2B units led the gains. The Vehicle Solution Company and the Eco Solution Company, which includes heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), posted record results. Their combined operating profit rose 37.2% year-over-year 2.
- Industrial and automotive momentum helped cover weaker performance in the Media Entertainment Solution Company. Softer TV demand, higher LCD panel prices, and higher marketing spend cut profitability 1.
- Home Appliance results held up, yet the business model is changing. More revenue now comes from subscriptions plus D2C channels, rather than only one-time purchases 3.
Tariff pressures are reshaping global supply chains
- US tariffs are pushing LG to plan around regional resilience, not only global efficiency 4.
- LG said it may move production and re-balance output across existing plants. Separate reporting cited a possible move of some refrigerator production from Mexico to LG’s factory in Tennessee 4.
- Earlier decisions set a template. LG broke ground in 2018 on a washing machine factory in Clarksville, Tennessee, after prior U.S. safeguard measures 4.
- These choices require a fresh look at lean manufacturing. Companies may accept higher overseas cost tradeoffs to gain tariff protection through local assembly 4.
