LG CNS launches robotics lab to expand automation push

LG CNS said it has set up an “RX Innovation Lab” to help companies adopt robotics and expand its enterprise automation business.

The lab will offer consulting services covering robot deployment planning, workflow redesign, and proof-of-concept testing under a three-step programme.

LG CNS said it will assess operations in sectors such as logistics, distribution, and manufacturing to identify where robots can improve efficiency, before evaluating suitable technologies including autonomous mobile robots and humanoids.

The company added that it is working with US robotics firms including Skild AI and Config, and is also investing in humanoid robot startup Dexmate.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

The new lab builds on an existing robotics foundation

  • The lab makes years of robotics work more visible. LG CNS has installed robot systems for large e-commerce companies and for affiliates, including an LG Chem battery materials plant 1.
  • LG CNS is pulling together an end-to-end service that covers robots, control software, and on-site operations. It invested in Dexmate, a humanoid robot company. It also partnered with Skild AI, a US robotics AI startup, to supply the robot’s AI “brain” 2.
  • Teams are already testing the service through proof-of-concept work with more than ten customers. They measure robot performance in logistics centers and factories 3.

The next frontier for IT services is physical

  • The move takes IT services past digital transformation (DX) and AI transformation (AX) into robot transformation (RX). Software firms then take responsibility for machines in real spaces 4.
  • LG CNS aims to compete with IT rivals, robotics makers, plus automation startups. It plans to do so by bundling consulting with deployment and support.
  • One vendor handling hardware rollout and AI training can cut project risk for companies that want to automate physical tasks 2.
