LG chief pushes software energy solutions for AI
LG Group chairman Koo Kwang-mo visited LG Energy Solution’s North American system integration subsidiary, Vertech, in Massachusetts, and urged a shift from battery hardware supply to integrated energy storage system solutions for AI-era power demand.
Vertech is LG Energy Solution’s North American system integration subsidiary that designs, installs, and operates energy storage systems with software, including energy management tools.
LG Energy Solution said it has adopted lithium iron phosphate batteries and is converting five North American plants for ESS production.
It said it is the only company making and supplying ESS batteries in the region.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
LG’s move from components to systems signals a push up the energy storage value chain
- The chairman’s visit to system integrator Vertech suggests a shift beyond making battery cells alone 1.
- Vertech designs, installs, and runs full energy storage systems with software such as energy management tools, which lets LG Energy Solution earn more than it would from selling battery hardware on its own 1.
- The approach pulls more of the stack in-house and positions LG Energy Solution as a full-service provider for AI-era power demand, not only a battery hardware supplier 1.
AI-driven power demand is boosting the market for grid-scale energy storage and related infrastructure
- AI data centers are pushing electricity use up fast. Grid stability becomes a limiting factor, which lifts demand for energy storage systems (ESS) 2.
- Rising demand opens room for large-scale storage and supporting gear such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and energy storage systems (ESS), putting industrial companies like LG closer to the center of data center expansion plans 2.
- A forecast that the energy storage market will more than double by 2030 suggests more manufacturers will add integrated power-solution offerings to stay competitive 1.
