LG Chem plans $9.7b R&D push for chips, robot tech

South Korea’s LG Chem, said on June 23 in Seoul that it plans to invest 15 trillion won (US$9.74 billion) in research and development by 2035. The investment will support growth in semiconductor, mobility, and robotics materials, and anticancer drugs.

It said 70% of the spending will go to semiconductor, mobility, and robotics materials.

The plan expands existing work rather than marking a new entry. LG Chem lists petrochemicals, advanced materials, and life sciences as research areas, and already sells semiconductor packaging materials such as adhesive films and substrate materials.

In life sciences, LG Chem focuses on oncology, immunology, and metabolic diseases. Its oncology pipeline includes programs from research to Phase II/III, alongside global partnerships.
