Lazada partners with South Korea’s Gmarket to expand in SEA
Lazada has partnered with Gmarket to offer 20 million products from South Korean sellers to shoppers in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam, starting September 29.
Gmarket is a leading South Korean ecommerce marketplace; this partnership follows a joint venture between Shinsegae Group and Alibaba Group to help Korean sellers expand internationally.
The collaboration will allow Southeast Asian customers to access a broader range of Korean goods, including brands such as Sulwahsoo, d’Alba, Mediheal, COSRX, Skinfood, and Laneige.
Lazada said customers will have localized product listings, cross-border delivery, and after-sales service managed jointly with Gmarket.
Momentum Works estimates that brand-driven sales make up less than 30% of Southeast Asia’s ecommerce, compared to over 50% in China.
Lazada’s virtual mall, LazMall, recorded nearly 30% year-on-year growth in average order value during its recent 9.9 sale, according to the company.
