US lawmakers urge probe of China’s Anker over tariff evasion

US lawmakers have asked the Commerce Department to investigate Anker Innovations Technology Co. for alleged unfair pricing and possible tariff evasion.

Anker, a Chinese electronics manufacturer known for phone accessories and chargers, was accused by the House Select Committee on China of misclassifying product codes and routing products through Southeast Asia to avoid US tariffs.

Committee leaders John Moolenaar and Raja Krishnamoorthi claimed in a letter that Anker received at least US$12 million in subsidies from the Chinese Communist Party in 2023.

Anker said it has started an internal review and plans to hire a US advisor to examine compliance issues.

As of publication, the Commerce Department has not announced whether it will pursue an investigation.
