Kuaishou’s Kling unveils new model ahead of potential IPO
Kling, Kuaishou Technology’s Beijing-based AI video unit, unveiled its Kling 4.0 model ahead of a potential Hong Kong listing, as Chinese AI video firms compete with ByteDance for users and revenue.
The model can generate clips up to 30 seconds long. Kling said a lite version is available to annual subscribers, while a full release is planned for October.
Kling reportedly raised US$2.8 billion in July at a valuation of about US$18 billion. Kuaishou still holds a majority stake, and Kling’s annualized revenue topped US$500 million in March.
A Hong Kong spin-off would still be feasible if Kuaishou kept control because the city’s rules allow parent companies to retain a controlling stake if the spun-off unit operates independently, with separate governance.
That structure matters because AI video remains costly to run.
Industry analysis says graphics processing unit (GPU) inference constrains margins unless providers raise prices, limit quality or duration, or secure cheaper computing power.
