Kuaishou faces breach after explicit content appears on live streams
Kuaishou, China’s second-largest short-video platform, experienced a major cyberattack on December 22, 2025 night that disrupted its livestreaming services and flooded high-traffic rooms with explicit content for over an hour.
The incident began at around 10pm, with viewership in some affected streams exceeding 50,000 before the company launched an emergency response.
Kuaishou said the breach was caused by actors from so-called “black and grey industries,” referring to illegal or ambiguous online activities.
The company reported the attack to police and regulators, and started deleting videos and shutting down live channels by 11:30pm, with services gradually resuming at 2am on December 23, 2025.
Cybersecurity experts in China cited weak threat detection as a factor, and noted that AI tools have made large-scale account compromises easier.
