🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The fourth-quarter loss obscures strong results earlier in the year
- The sharp Q4 profit drop looks worse on its own. A regulatory filing ties it mostly to one-time costs for employee welfare and a move to its Seoul headquarters.
- Before Q4, Krafton reported Q3 2025 revenue of KRW 870.6 billion, up 21% from a year earlier 1.
- PC results set a record, with revenue rising 29% year over year. Its localized Indian mobile game, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), also delivered solid results 2.
- Through the third quarter, cumulative operating profit topped KRW 1 trillion for the first time within the first three quarters 1.
Krafton’s diversification push aims to reduce reliance on PUBG
- Record annual sales still leave a risk. About 80% of revenue comes from the PUBG franchise, which keeps diversification urgent 3.
- Costs follow its “Big Franchise IP” strategy. Krafton is investing more in games it develops in-house and increasing third-party publishing to find another hit franchise 4.
- Its internal pipeline includes 26 new projects. Twelve titles, including Subnautica 2 and Palworld Mobile, target release within two years 5.
- It is also buying assets beyond games. Krafton paid $517 million for Japanese animation studio ADK, known for involvement with IPs (intellectual properties) like Yu-Gi-Oh! 3.
