KPay unveils digital payments with Hong Kong taxi fleet Amigo

KPay has partnered with Amigo, a Hong Kong-based taxi fleet, to roll out a digital payment system in all Amigo taxis.

The integration uses KPay Terminal Pro, allowing passengers to pay via 20+local and 30+ overseas digital payment methods, including credit cards and digital wallets.

KPay is a fintech platform providing business and payment solutions in Asia Pacific.

Passengers can now make cashless payments in Amigo taxis, which the companies say will streamline transactions and reduce the reliance on cash.

Amigo, which operates a tech-enabled fleet in Hong Kong, received its fleet license in 2025 and uses electric vehicles.

The companies plan to expand the partnership to more taxis and introduce new vehicle models in the future.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Investors can tackle the taxi charging gap as electric fleets grow

  • Hong Kong has 11,000 public Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers, but only 2,000 are quick or fast units that deliver a 30 to 60 minute charge 3. That downtime hurts drivers who earn about HK$200 per hour, so battery swapping stations can replace a depleted EV battery in under 3 minutes 3. This looks like an opening for operators and investors.
  • The Hong Kong government set aside $2 billion for EV charging in private car parks 4 and offers HK$45,000 per Electric Vehicle taxi 3. Charging-network operators, utilities, and property owners can partner with fleets or build at 80 designated fleet taxi stopping places across 13 locations 5. These sites include the airport and the cruise terminal.
  • Plans call for more than 3,500 fleet taxis citywide 2. Depot fast charging or battery swapping at fleet sites built for taxi operations can cut idle time and win subsidies or contracts.
