S Korea’s Hana Bank issues $100m digital bond via Euroclear
Hana Bank, a South Korean lender, issued a US$100 million digital bond through Euroclear’s blockchain settlement platform on September 21, with issuance and settlement completed on the same day.
Euroclear, a Brussels-based financial services company and central securities depository, said the foreign-currency bond was issued on its Digital Financial Market Infrastructure using distributed ledger technology.
The platform replaced a settlement process that typically takes three to five business days.
Hana said the transaction was the first time a Korean financial institution had directly used Euroclear’s distributed ledger infrastructure. Standard Chartered was the sole lead manager.
The deal comes as South Korea prepares a full framework for tokenized securities in February 2027.
