Korean telcos start selling Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses
South Korea’s SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus began selling Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta glasses on July 22, after the AI wearable launched in Korea on May.
The Wayfarer model starts at 690,000 won (US$470). The three telecom operators are selling the glasses online and in stores, with installment plans tied to mobile subscriptions.
SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus are also expanding sales through their retail channels, with KT planning a nationwide rollout and LG Uplus offering plan-based discounts
At launch, the glasses were sold through department stores, duty-free shops, and optical stores. The telecom operators mainly add financing options and sales through their own retail channels, rather than a new base price.
Meta’s Korea launch materials said the device supports “Hey Meta” voice prompts for contextual questions and help, as well as hands-free calling, and photo and video capture. An LED indicator is meant to alert others when the glasses are recording.
The sales launch comes as forecasts said South Korea’s wearable AI market could grow 15.70% a year through 2032.
