Korean tech giant Naver CEO, execs purchase $482k in shares
Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon and five senior executives purchased a combined 700 million won (US$482,881) worth of shares earlier this week, the company said.
Choi and other senior executives, including the CFO and COO, each bought shares worth around 100 million won to 200 million won (US$68,983 – US$137,966).
The move follows Naver’s announcement of a stock buyback plan and increased cash dividends for shareholders.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Executive share purchases follow record revenue but shares lag the broader market
- Naver’s stock has trailed the broader market even after the company reported record 2025 annual revenue of 12.04 trillion won 1.
- Fourth-quarter results weighed on sentiment when net profit dropped 68% year over year, driven mainly by goodwill impairment losses, and fell short of analyst expectations 2.
- Recent executive share buys add weight to Naver’s stock buyback plan and higher cash dividends under a new three-year shareholder return program, which targets returns of 25-35% of the prior two years’ average consolidated free cash flow through share repurchases and retirements or cash dividends 3.
Insider buying signals confidence amid scrutiny of Naver’s capital-intensive AI strategy
- The trades push back on investor worries about Naver’s cash-heavy artificial intelligence strategy.
- Analysts have called the AI push, including a planned purchase of 60,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) from Nvidia, “strategically compelling but financially unproven,” and warned it may squeeze profit margins 2.
- Management’s added stake suggests a view that bringing AI into search, commerce, and other services can drive growth even with high upfront costs 3.
- The buying also aims to strengthen confidence by tying leadership’s financial outcomes to shareholder returns during this investment cycle 4.
