Korean researchers develop battery-free ultrasound pain implant

A research team from Yonsei University and Samsung Medical Center has developed a battery-free electronic drug that uses ultrasound to block pain signals, according to Yonsei University.

The technology uses a biocompatible medical polymer which generates by external ultrasound.

This process allows the device to block pain signals without electrodes, wires, batteries, or pharmaceuticals.

The polymer degrades naturally in the body over time, removing the need for surgical removal.

Animal tests showed that pain signals dropped immediately when ultrasound was applied.

The researchers say this approach could reduce complications linked to traditional electronic pain treatments.
