South Korean car manufacturer KG Mobility, formerly SsangYong Motor, is in a trademark dispute in Turkey.

The Turkish Patent and Trademark Office has temporarily prohibited Cihan Turan, the owner of the “KG Mobility” trademark in Turkey, from transferring the trademark rights to third parties since last month.

The legal battle over trademark invalidation might last two to four years, causing significant costs and delays.

Turkey, along with Europe and Korea, represents a key market for the company, making the ongoing dispute a significant issue.

KG Mobility has also been required to pay royalties to use its name, complicating the situation.

Negotiations with Turan are ongoing in the EU.

In Turkey, the company faced a setback when its alternative acronym, “KGM,” was rejected due to similarities with Turkey’s General Directorate of Highways.
