Korea ministry, Seoul National University advance AI manufacturing

Seoul National University has joined South Korea’s M.AX Alliance, a public-private initiative led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to advance AI development in manufacturing.

The agreement, signed on November 24, will enable SNU collaborate with companies such as Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, and Rainbow Robotics to create AI models for humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles, and AI-driven factories.

The alliance, launched in September, brings together more than 1,000 participants from industry, academia, and research to work on joint research and demonstration projects.

SNU will focus on developing AI models using data shared by alliance companies, with research funding of about 1.2 billion won allocated through 2029.

Plans include establishing a framework for sharing and standardizing manufacturing datasets, as well as expanding talent development through training programs and internships for SNU students.

The partnership also aims to enable direct cooperation between SNU research institutes and corresponding alliance divisions.
