S Korea firm Semifive wins $8m AI chip order from Japan

South Korean chip design firm Semifive, which develops custom AI chips and provides manufacturing services, said on June 26 it received an 11 billion won (US$7.15 million) purchase order from a Japanese AI semiconductor customer.

The order is roughly 10% of Semifive’s 111.8 billion won (US$72.7 million) in consolidated revenue for 2024, based on the company’s disclosed results.

Semifive established a Tokyo subsidiary in 2025 as Japan expanded semiconductor support, and the government planned at least 10 trillion yen (US$61.8 billion) for chips and AI through fiscal 2030.

The company said the order could lead to additional supply contracts as demand rises for chips used in AI and data centers.
