In 50 Words: Malaysian coffee startup Koppiku opens first store in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian coffee chain Koppiku opened its maiden store in Kuala Lumpur last Friday. Koppiku co-founder Rajiv Bhanot told Tech in Asia that the firm plans to add a few more outlets this year throughout the Klang Valley.

The startup, which counts prominent entrepreneurs and VC firms among its investors, aims to compete with other coffee chains in Malaysia with drinks priced from 5 ringgit (US$1.07) to 9.90 ringgit (US$2.13).

This effectively pits the upstart against other coffee companies making inroads in the country, such as local players ZUS Coffee and Gigi Coffee as well as Indonesia’s Kopi Kenangan.
