Kopi Kenangan opens its first store in India

Southeast Asian coffee chain Kopi Kenangan has debuted in India.

The store, which operates under the brand Kenangan Coffee, opened its first store on Apr. 10 at Pacific Mall in Tagore Garden, Delhi.

India is now the fifth Asian market for Kopi Kenangan, which already has locations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.

The company plans to open over 10 outlets in India by the end of 2025 while aiming for a long-term goal of 50 stores.

Kopi Kenangan intends to invest up to 40 crore rupees (more than US$4.6 million) in sourcing and retail expansion over the next two years.

The brand aims to offer a menu that includes 35 beverages and 20 food items.

The company will source select coffee ingredients from Indian producers and hire local staff for its operations.

Since its founding in 2017, Kopi Kenangan has established over 1,000 outlets across Southeast Asia.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Southeast Asian coffee chains following a methodical regional expansion strategy

Kopi Kenangan’s entry into India represents a deliberate expansion sequence across Asia’s diverse markets.

The company has implemented a clear geographic progression: from its home market of Indonesia (900+ outlets) to Malaysia (71 outlets), Singapore (7 outlets), the Philippines (launching October 2024), and now India (April 2025)1.

This staged expansion pattern demonstrates a “test and learn” approach, where brands establish operations in culturally and economically similar markets before tackling more diverse ones.

The strategy allows Kopi Kenangan to refine its supply chain, adapt products, and develop market-specific knowledge with each new country entry, mirroring successful expansion patterns used by other Asian F&B brands going global.

By achieving unicorn status in January 2022 after raising $96 million in Series C funding, the company secured the capital necessary to execute this ambitious cross-border expansion while pursuing a target of 1,800 global outlets by 20261.
