KKR launches $10b AI venture with Nvidia backing
KKR said on June 11 it launched Helix Digital Infrastructure with more than US$10 billion in committed capital to fund AI infrastructure.
The new company will be led by former Amazon Web Services chief executive Adam Selipsky, with Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia, and Vistra as anchor investors.
Vistra, a US power company, will be Helix’s preferred electricity provider, while Nvidia will advise on AI data-center design.
KKR said its infrastructure platform manages more than US$100 billion in assets, including over US$70 billion across digital infrastructure and power.
The launch comes as rapid US data-center expansion strains power supply. The US Department of Energy said data centers accounted for about 4.4% of US electricity demand in 2023.
The figure could consume up to 9% of annual US electricity generation by 2030.
The launch also follows Apollo and Blackstone saying on June 10 they would finance a US$35 billion expansion of AI capacity for Anthropic using custom chips from Broadcom.
