Kia opens first phase of new plant for modular EVs

Kia has completed the first phase of its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) factory, called the EVO Plant, in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

The new facility will focus on producing modular EVs designed for flexible commercial use.

Kia plans to invest around 4 trillion won (US$2.7 billion) in the two-plant project, which covers about 300,000 square meters.

The east section of the plant, now completed, will produce the PV5 model with a targeted annual output of 100,000 units.

The west section, scheduled to open in 2027, will assemble larger PBVs like the PV7, with an expected capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year.

Kia also intends to operate a PBV Conversion Center for developing specialized models with partner firms.
