Kia India launches Sorento featuring generative AI assistant
Kia India, the Indian unit of South Korean automaker Kia, launched the Sorento in New Delhi on September 4. Introductory ex-showroom prices start at 2.8 million rupees (US$30,000) for the diesel variant and 2.9 million rupees (US$31,000) for the hybrid.
The launch marks Kia’s entry into India’s premium three-row SUV segment and its first hybrid offering in the country.
The Sorento will be built at Kia India’s Anantapur facility and sold in six-seat and seven-seat layouts. All-wheel drive is available on both the 1.6-litre hybrid and 2.2-litre diesel powertrains.
Kia also said the India-spec Sorento is the global debut of its in-car AI assistant with real-time generative AI capabilities. The SUV has 30 Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features and up to 10 airbags.
Deliveries began on September 4.
The launch comes amid mixed signals for hybrids in India. One industry report said hybrid car sales surged 147% in Q1 FY26, while another said sales were flat in H1 2026 overall.
Kia India’s website also says eco and electric mobility are part of its strategy, though the available material did not outline any broader local hybrid rollout beyond the Sorento.
