Khazanah to support local chip firms, boost power grid

Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional plans to increase investments in power grid infrastructure and support local semiconductor firms, its chief said at Davos.

The focus is on energy supply and grid resilience, especially renewable energy, to meet rising demand from AI computing.

Khazanah also aims to fund Malaysian semiconductor companies to move into higher-value activities such as advanced packaging.

The Malaysian government targets more than US$123.4 billion in semiconductor investments, supported by fiscal incentives for chip design and packaging.

On the ringgit, its chief said there is potential for strengthening, depending on US dollar movements and global interest rate conditions.
