Kakao narrows Q4 net loss on record platform revenue

Kakao reported a significant reduction in its net loss for Q4, driven by record revenue from its platform business, according to a regulatory filing.

The company’s net loss narrowed to 39.3 billion won (US$27.1 million) from 395.2 billion won (US$274 million) a year earlier.

Operating profit increased by nearly 170 percent to 203.4 billion won (US$141.1 million), while revenue rose 9 percent to 2.1 trillion won (US$1.4 billion).

The platform division generated 1.2 trillion won (US$832.8 million) in sales, mainly from ads on KakaoTalk, while content sales remained stable at 910.6 billion won (US$632 million).

For 2025, Kakao posted a net profit of 525.7 billion won (US$364.8 million), reversing a previous net loss.

The company’s annual operating profit reached 732 billion won (US$508 million), up 59.1 percent, with total sales increasing 2.9 percent.
