Kakao Mobility pilots AI parking in Saudi’s Diriyah
Kakao Mobility signed a paid proof-of-concept agreement to supply its mobility solution for Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah development.
The technology will be implemented across three zones with about 5,000 parking spaces, with plans to expand if the pilot succeeds.
The project, costing an estimated 90 trillion won (US$62.5 billion), involves digitizing parking infrastructure and integrating Kakao T’s user interface and back-end systems. The agreement aims to test the solution’s feasibility before broader deployment across Diriyah’s mobility network.
Kakao Mobility’s offerings include AI-powered space prediction, indoor navigation without GPS, and a unified app for valet, parking, and payments.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
A small first step into a massive project
- The agreement is a paid proof-of-concept, a small trial to check feasibility rather than a full rollout.
- The estimate of 90 trillion won (about US$62.5 billion) covers the full Diriyah development project, not Kakao Mobility’s opening contract.
- The pilot starts in three zones with about 5,000 parking spaces. That is far below the more than 60,000 possible spaces, so Kakao Mobility needs results before it can take on more.
Parking is the entry point for a smart city’s operating system
- The deal fits a common playbook where tech companies get into big city builds by tackling parking operations first.
- Kakao Mobility plans one app for valet, parking, and payments. It also brings the Kakao T user interface plus back-end systems, which can grow into a broader platform.
- The company’s CEO said the setup could later run services such as autonomous driving, EV charging, and delivery robots, which would tie the parking layer into the city’s daily infrastructure.
