Jury deliberates in Qualcomm vs. Arm licensing dispute
A United States federal jury in the state of Delaware is deliberating a legal case between US-based Qualcomm and British chip designer Arm Holdings.
The case questions whether Qualcomm or its subsidiary, Nuvia, breached a licensing agreement with Arm.
Arm claims Qualcomm violated the deal regarding Nuvia’s technology, leading to its termination in 2022. Qualcomm disputes this, arguing the chip designs in question were developed independently.
The verdict could affect Qualcomm’s plans to compete in the PC market with high-speed chips aimed at competing with Apple and Intel.
During closing arguments, Qualcomm accused Arm of pressuring smartphone chipmakers, while Arm’s attorney focused on whether the licensing terms were violated.
