Judge dismisses Meta lawsuit on minors’ safety disclosures
A US federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, which accused the company of misleading shareholders about protecting minors on Facebook and Instagram.
On Tuesday, US District Judge Charles Breyer ruled in San Francisco that plaintiff Matt Eisner did not prove economic harm to shareholders due to Meta’s alleged insufficient disclosures.
Breyer clarified that federal securities law did not require Meta to detail sexually explicit content involving minors or to specify unchosen protective measures.
Eisner’s lawsuit sought to stop Meta from holding its 2024 annual meeting without amending its proxy statement.
It also aimed to annul any election results from that meeting and demanded reimbursement for legal costs.
