🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Logistics builders can go after Southeast Asia’s capacity gap as rivals react

  • Rivals such as Ninja Van, a Southeast Asia-based parcel delivery company, put $50 million into retrofitting 9 sorting hubs for 50% productivity by H2 2024. More automation will follow as J&T’s share climbs to 28.6% 32.
  • Vietnam saw a 211% year-on-year parcel spike during November 1-11, which exposed bottlenecks in hyper-local logistics. That lifts demand for micro-fulfillment centers (small urban warehouses close to customers), AI route optimization, and dark-store networks (retail locations closed to the public used solely to pick online orders).
  • The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Courier, Express, and Parcel (CEP) market reaches $23.51 billion by 2030 45. Same-day operators grow at a 7.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) with tech spend needed to meet 2-hour delivery promises.
