🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Southeast Asia’s logistics boom fueled by manufacturing diversification
J&T Express’s 50% year-over-year parcel volume growth in Southeast Asia reflects the region’s emergence as a critical manufacturing hub as global companies implement “China+1” strategies.
Indonesia attracted approximately $33 billion in greenfield manufacturing FDI in 2023, while Vietnam secured about $16 billion, creating significant new logistics demand 1.
This manufacturing shift is driving the broader Asia-Pacific logistics market, which is projected to grow from $4.56 trillion in 2024 to $8.28 trillion by 2034, representing a 6.1% annual growth rate 2.
J&T’s infrastructure investments, such as adding 400 new outlets in Southeast Asia and increasing its line-haul fleet by 1,000 vehicles, strategically position the company to capture this manufacturing-driven logistics growth.
The company’s early expansion into Malaysia and Vietnam, which began several years ago, has given it a first-mover advantage in these rapidly developing markets where infrastructure reliability remains challenging.
2️⃣ Ramadan’s transformative impact on e-commerce logistics
J&T’s 57.8% increase in average daily parcel volume during Ramadan highlights how this shopping festival has become a critical driver of logistics growth in predominantly Muslim markets like Indonesia.
Indonesia alone is projected to generate approximately $73 billion in retail spending during Ramadan 2025, translating to around $300 per person in consumer expenditure 3.
The seasonal surge creates significant operational challenges, with logistics networks needing to scale capacity by up to 40% to meet peak demand, particularly for evening deliveries which can increase by 50% during Ramadan 4.
