JPMorgan Chase plans more autonomous AI agents

JPMorgan Chase, the largest US bank by assets, plans to deploy AI agents later this year that can work autonomously for longer than existing versions, chief analytics officer Derek Waldron said.

The move builds on the bank’s in-house generative AI push. Its LLM Suite reached 200,000 users within eight months of its summer 2024 rollout for eligible employees.

Unlike copilots that mainly help with single tasks, agentic systems can take action across multi-step workflows with greater autonomy. Waldron said these tools can write code, control web browsers, and interact with desktop software.

Waldron said security concerns have slowed adoption in large companies and that long-running agents are not yet ready for corporate use. “We will have those in 2026,” he said.

He added that AI tools in JPMorgan’s private banking business have lifted gross sales by 20%.

That caution comes as US banking agencies updated guidance on model risk in April 2026 and said generative and agentic AI fall outside its formal scope, while Morgan Stanley is opening parts of its wealth platform to external AI agents.
