JPMorgan Chase posts record profit on trading surge
JPMorgan Chase, the largest bank in the US, reported second-quarter profit of US$21.2 billion on July 14. LSEG data showed it was the highest quarterly profit ever recorded by a US bank, as stronger investment banking and trading lifted results.
The quarter included a one-time gain tied to JPMorgan’s Visa stake. On an adjusted basis, earnings were US$6.14 per share, above the US$5.85 analyst estimate compiled by LSEG.
Investment banking fees rose 30% from a year earlier. Equity trading revenue increased 86%, fixed-income trading revenue rose 6%, and net interest income excluding markets grew 4% to US$23.7 billion.
JPMorgan said the gains were supported by a rebound in initial public offerings and dealmaking, as well as volatile markets that boosted trading activity.
The bank also raised its 2026 expense forecast to US$107.5 billion from US$105 billion, and lifted its 2026 net interest income forecast excluding markets to US$96.5 billion from US$95 billion.
JPMorgan shares were up nearly 3% after the results.
