Job openings in the United States rose to 8 million in August, up from 7.7 million in July, according to the US Labor Department.

Significant vacancies were reported in the construction sector and in state and local government positions.

In contrast, layoffs decreased during the same month, while the number of Americans choosing to leave their jobs fell to its lowest since August 2020.

While job openings have generally declined from a peak of 12.2 million reached in March 2022, the current figure remains significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels recorded in early 2020.
