Jio launches $13 phones amid India’s digital inclusion push

Reliance’s digital arm, Jio Platforms, has launched two 4G-enabled handsets—JioBharat V3 and V4—priced at 1,099 rupees (US$13).

This initiative targets hundreds of millions of Indians still dependent on slower 2G networks, as Jio pushes for digital inclusion.

The handsets target users in second-tier and third-tier cities, where affordability hinders access to modern telecommunications.

The JioBharat models feature a 1.77-inch display, 48MB of RAM, and 128MB of internal storage, expandable to 128GB.

These specifications prioritize essential functionalities over processing power, aiming to ease access to Jio’s digital services without extra subscription fees.
